Competitive and social ballroom, open to everyone at Brown and RISD. Most of us had never danced a step before we joined.
A student-run team, founded in 1993. Anyone at Brown or RISD can dance with us, whatever they have done before. The weekly beginners’ lesson needs no partner, no dance shoes and no experience.
From there people go at their own pace. Some come once a week and never compete; others travel with us across New England every competition.

Teams from across the Northeast fill a ballroom in Woonsocket for one very long Saturday. It is not running this year, and we hope to bring it back.
Danced in a closed hold, traveling around the whole floor. Long lines, rise and fall, a lot of ground covered.
Danced mostly in one place, the hold opening and closing throughout. Faster, sharper, closer to the floor.

Wear something you can move in, and shoes with a smooth sole or just socks. You do not need a partner, because everyone rotates.
Your first semester is free. After that dues are $60 a semester for Brown and RISD students, $140 for community members who have been with the team a year, and $200 otherwise. Nobody is turned away over money, so write to brown.ballroom@gmail.com if the figure is a problem.
